The body of a missing Mendocino County woman was found in the Russian River Monday south of Ukiah, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported.

According to the MCSO, around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 22,  Christina D. Emmett, 54, was reported missing after her vehicle was found abandoned in the 11000 block of Old River Road in Hopland.

The following morning, members of the MCSO Search and Rescue Team, and well as the swift water rescue team from the Hopland Fire Protection District and personnel from Cal Fire, Ukiah Valley Fire Authority and the Little Lake Fire Department, began searching the water near where Emmett’s vehicle was found. After about an hour of searching, her body was located.

MCSO Capt. Greg Van Patten said Monday evening that it was still unclear whether Emmett had gone to the river by herself, and that the death may have been accidental. When asked if her death could have been a suicide, Van Patten said there was no clear evidence yet that pointed to either an accident or suicide.

According to the MCSO, “there is no foul play suspected at this time,” and Emmett’s death may have been caused by a fall.
